Projects Will Benefit 51 Counties
North Carolina’s rural areas just got a huge economic boost and will contribute to the state being a hot-bed for new jobs. Indeed, Forbes has ranked Raleigh, NC as No. 1 on their annual list of the Best Places for Business and Careers.(1)
For rural areas, 62 grants worth $9.6 million were approved by the Board of Directors of N.C. Rural Economic Development Center on November 16th. The grants will be used to create 1211 jobs and assist projects benefiting 51 counties. The grants were made possible through appropriations from the N.C. General Assembly and other funders.
39 of the grants totaling $7.9 million were awarded for projects that will directly lead to creating jobs.
N.C. Rural Economic Development Center
Serving North Carolina’s 85 rural counties, The N.C. Rural Economic Development Center is a private, nonprofit organization led by a 50-member Board of Directors. The Center’s mission is to develop sound economic strategies that improve the quality of life in rural North Carolina, with a special focus on individuals with low to moderate incomes and communities with limited resources. The center operates a multifaceted program that includes conducting research into rural issues; testing promising rural development strategies; advocating for policy and program innovations; and building the productive capacity of rural leaders, entrepreneurs and community organizations.
